Purchase Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

I received this device yesterday at around 1:30pm. Thanks release day delivery! I have never had a touch screen device before, and i have been worried about the lack of a tactile response when using the device. In the short time i've had it though i can say it works very well, though there is a slight learning curve. It's nothing too difficult, and the interface is very intuitive- once you figure out how it works it seems just brilliant! Music playing is fantastic and very eye candy-ish with the shots of the musicians scrolling in the background. Sound quality is of course superior. The screen lock is cool, everything on this device just screams functional luxury. love the screws on the back, makes it look very sharp and well made, like a fine watch or something. 4 stars because i just am not in love with the touch interface but everything is so great, maybe it will grow on me.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

I have had multiple MP3 Players and video players. This one is by far the best. I can not compare it to the iPod because I have never owned one, but I have used my sisters. But not owning one and spending significant time with it and updating it would be unfair. However I have owned about all the Creative models and several Sansa. I am hard on MP3 players, they go to the gym with me, and I live in Michigan so they go out with me to shovel snow in the cold of winter and the heat of summer to mow lawn. This one is by far the best, i sure hope it stands the test of time, but it is not to say it is without some flaws in the software which I hope they fix.

First off is is extremely light, this think you do not really know it is there. Also the ability to just walk in the house and hit sync and have it sync everything without plugging it in is a great feature. I also like how the controls work and the speed of the device to do what I want. However, the one thing is which I could find no information on anywhere even on Amazons site is that it only comes with a USB cord that you have to use to charge the device and the initial setup. However after the initial setup the wireless sync would be optimal for me rather than plugging it in to the PC every night then leaving the PC on and letting it charge. So I will have to invest in a wall outlet charging adapter and probably a car adapter.

The Zune software on the device, again I have only had it a day, is a little clunky in some parts but overall I would give it an A-. If you are looking to play music, and videos and podcasts it is quick easy and fast to get going with default behavior, which leads me to some of my instant dislikes. Some of the problem with it is that I might not have figured out where to adjust or set something away from the default behavior. Which leads me to the biggest problem, getting help on how to do something with the device. This seems pretty non existent. If you get an error there is a link to a really good article on the web about the error and what causes the error and how to fix and resolve the error. This is great and a great feature to have, I mean this is really great because I got 2 different errors syncing files and the error had a link that took me to the web and told me exactly what to do. But say you want to change something for example, Podcasts. They download and sync to your device flawlessly. However say the podcast you have is a daily one and you do not listen to it daily you let it build up maybe a week at a time. Well they come in a chronological order, and the podcast from today may reference something from yesterday. When you go to podcast and click on the podcast to start playing all of them in the Zune well it plays from newest to oldest. So you can not just go play them all in the order they were meant to be in. I really want to change this so it plays the oldest to the newest. However there doesn't either seem to be a way to do this or I can't find it. So now I have to go into each podcast and scroll to the bottom of the list and play them each one at a time. If there is not a way to do this then there needs to be, if there is a way to do this there is no easy way to figure out how the heck to change this behavior. Another every time I have to go and change to play the next chronological podcast the first screen is some red ribbon thing that also displays the time that I have to swipe my finger up to get it out of the way so I can start playing another one. I would really like to turn this thing off because it is annoying and is an extra step, I would probably hate it less if all my podcasts played in chronological order and didn't have to switch podcasts every 5-7 minutes. However there is no visible way to turn this off either. I have went into display settings and tried changing things there, I seem to get nowhere. So more googling the web seeing if anyone has found a way to disable this again no central help or easy to find help for these things. Then my only other complaint with the zune device itself which I think is a major one, HD radio. I have been curious about HD radio but I am not about to go out and replace my car radio so I can see what this HD radio stuff is. I figured this would be an opportunity to see. Well from the menu I tap on radio and the radio starts up and I can go to all my regular radio stations and set up presets and everything. However where is the HD radio? All I see is the same old radio stations. I know they exist in my area they advertise them on the local radio stations. How do I get to them, or how do I know I am listening to an HD radio station? This one totally perplexes me. Honestly all I see are the same old radio stations at the same old location on the dial I see with my regular old radios. I see absolutely nothing on the device telling me I am listening to HD or Standard or what. Then I have no help to tell me what I am doing wrong if anything. Again I think this is something I need to figure out, but come on this is supposed to be one of the big features of the device. Honestly had I not read other reviews about people saying they were listening to HD radio stations I would think it is something not implemented yet, again no instructions or help. Playing music, I like to sometimes choose an album or a playlist and then just set it to randomly play songs on the list. I am sure this device can do this, but how? There are some buttons at the bottom when something is playing, but there are no tool tips or anything that tells me what these buttons do. Again no help that tell me what these buttons do either. So I guess my biggest problem with the device is it has a pretty steep learning curve, but that I would expect because it is a great device, then being that it has a steep curve is that there is no help or instructions beyond the "this is how you turn the device on and hook it up." So basically if there was anything I would improve would be to allow some customizations to default behavior if they are not there or make it easier to change them because they are not obvious then provide instructions somewhere. This player is the best I have owned thus far. One negative is that it does not support WPA2-enterprise wireless networks. My campus uses that network so that means i will have to wait to get to wifi hotspots to use it on network. I've used many PMP's from Ipod touch to Cowon and Archos, this is the best of all of them hardware-wise. The Zune HD's screen is breathtakingly clear. The processor is by far the fastest I've experienced on a PMP and the organization of files is very user friendly. However software wise the Zune has great potential. If Microsoft were to focus on what it does best, software, the Zune would reign over all portable devices.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Bought it day one. I've fallen in love with the sleek and sexy UI interface. It's so easy to use, it's a sin. I recommend this to anyone in search of a new device. For $290, it's such a steal it should be considered a crime.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) Top Quality

The Zune HD is an awesome music player. If I could only have one device this would probably be it. Unfortunately I have an iPhone and an Airport Express which allow me to play and control music wirelessly from another room. I could get over this but I can't get over the basic Zune software or Zune rating system. While a rating system of 0-5 stars may not be perfect it give more flexibility than like, dislike, or no rating. I've been struggling with this for several days and I just cannot work with such a basic rating system. I need at least four choices. Add to this the fact that the Zune software does not natively support Audiobooks without very limited third party software and the device becomes a bust. I really like the Zune HD and I want it to become the center of my digital music world but I cannot justify spending this kind of money for a device that doesn't mesh with my current configuration. I don't expect Microsoft to play nicely with iTunes or the other way around but it would be nice if they met me half way.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) This instant

This is the basics of what you get with the Zune HD
- It's a great music player in terms of visuals and music playback
- Nice looking video player despite it's small size. I don't see people watching a lot of videos on this device but the option of HD video output to an HDTV is what you want to go for
- HD radio which produces CD quality radio service. I tried it and it actually works.
- Internet surfing = Zune HD has a web browser. The browser is surprisingly good but again, with the Zune HD's size, the experience is not quite as favorable. If Microsoft makes another Zune HD with a bigger screen and export the web browser to it, the experiene will be magnified.

If you're looking for alternative to the iPod Touch which has apps, I suggest you hold off on buying the Zune HD for now. There are some basic apps like Weather and calculator but it's App store is not as vast as Apple. I suggest you buy this device mainly for being a music/video player and maybe a favorable internet browsing experience.

The Zune 4.0 software is a WAY better alternative to iTunes 9. The experience is just better overall. Browsing and listening to music is dull experience when compared to Zune 4.0 which has better visuals and a better music playing experience.

If you're looking for a strong alternative to the iPod Touch, Zune HD is as good as it gets. If you on the other hand, are looking for a PMP which has a vast apps store, i suggest you stick to iPod.

Overall, I think the Zune HD is better device for music loversGet more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Only had for one day, but WOW! I have an ipod and had the previous Zune which I also loved. The Zune HD is even smaller and slimmer than it looked in the photos. The display is beautiful and the touch screen interface works perfect. The new Zune 4.0 software has been improved and the marketplace is very easy to use. The internet is great and works quite well. The hd radio is amazing and a great feature to have. Videos are exceptional, same with the music files. I brought this into work today and all my co-workers and even the boss enjoyed it and now one of them is buying one. Will continue to show this player to others. I just put my I-Touch up on E-Bay. I bought the ZUNE HD yesterday and can't put it down. The screen is the clearest out and the touch screen works like a charm. Volume is clearer than the I-touch and it's a much nicer looking player. Another plus is your not limited to Apples I-Tunes. The Zune plays all the formats out there accept for apples. Real Player lets you download any music you want from you tube now. Don't second guess it. Zune HD will be the best player you ever owned. As usual, Microsoft is about 2 years behind the iPod line, with a limited number of features that have been available on the iPod for two years. Bravo to MS for being able to copy yet another Apple design, just as it copied the square-shaped screen and click wheel design of the original iPod. It's stunning that Microsoft continues to trail behind Apple and attempts to win market share by merely adopting everything Apple proves to be successful. Listen, no one in their right mind would give up the thousands of apps, the games, the download-direct capability to rent movies and buy music, the sex appeal of the design and the ease of use of the iPod Touch in favor of the significantly hampered features of a Zune. So yes, I'm calling out any Microsoft employee making up phony "reviews" in which they claim to be former iPod Touch owners. If you're a true consumer who is comparing this latest outdated brick with the iPod Touch, I encourage you to try them both. Try before you buy. Simply go to your nearest Apple Store and get hands-on with the iPod Touch, then go find a vendor who will let you get JUST AS hands-on with a Zune. The user experience is so significantly different, the decision will be simple to make. Then you can come back here to Amazon to make the purchase. The Zune isn't even what the iPod was 2 years ago... But if you're opposed to having the cutting edge of full functionality, hey, Microsoft is your company.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Points of comparison:
- Brighter OLED screen with more vivid color and better contrast
OLED screens can wash out in direct sunlight more than others, but in almost any other situation they are clearly preferable, and have a marvelous eye-catching picture that needs to be seen to be appreciated. The screen has slighly lower resolution than the iPod Touch, but is also slightly smaller, so in the end video looks a little less pixellated when viewed closely, and very vivid.

- HD Radio
If you live within the reception area of some HD radio stations this can be a surprisingly nice feature. For me it's not so much the slightly better sound quality as it is the additional streams of content that make this fun. For example, if you tune into an FM station, then it's playing what you here, and if you don't like it too bad. With an HD station, you may tune in and it will be shown with up to three signals to chose from labeled HD1, HD2, and HD3. HD1 may have whatever is playing on the FM version, HD2 may be news, and HD3 might be some alternative music w/ a different theme. For example one of our oldies station in the Boston area broadcasts a love-song themed selection on HD3. One caveat: if you don't have a strong enough signal, these HD versions can cut in and out, making them frustrating to listen to. But, when the signal is strong enough it's very enjoyable.

- 720p video output via (an over-priced) dock. When transferring video content to the Zune you can specify if it should be sized appropriately for playback on the Zune or TV, so if you do plan to just watch on your Zune you won't have the video taking up huge amounts of storage.

- Zune Pass subscription service
This is my favorite feature that will keep me using a Zune until it's pried from my my desperate grasp. For $15 a month I get 10 DRM-free MP3 songs to keep, and unlimited access to millions of songs. As long as you would have bought at least 10 songs anyways that means you're paying only $5 for that access. It's better than Pandora, Slacker, LastFM or other services because you can listen to full CDs, specify playlists and tracks in the exact order you want, AND can either stream this music or store it on your Zune to listen to later, even if out of wifi range. Lots of people present subscription services as something you do INSTEAD of owning music, but at this cheap a price there's no reason you can't use this as a supplement to whatever purchases you make. It's not either/or, it's a wonderful "AND", especially if you're the type who likes to explore and enjoy a broad range of music.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

- Wireless sync
In addition to wireless net access, you can sync your Zune to your PC wirelessly, which can be quite convenient on occasion. The new Zune HD seems to have better wireless reception than my prior Zunes.

- Smart DJ
Rhapsody first popularized a playlist construction service with its 'Channels' feature, and Apple followed with its 'Genius' feature. The idea is that you specify a song or artist, and the service will construct a playlist of similar music of both familiar and new artists for you to enjoy. The prior Zunes had a 'Channel' feature too, but I found it lacking in sophistication and accuracy. The 4.0 Zune Marketplace upgrade (the Zune equivalent of iTunes) now has a 'Smart DJ' feature that is a much improved version of the old Channels. I actually find it very useful now, and what's even better is that if you have Zune Pass you can specify whether it should pull music exclusive from your collection, from the Zune Pass selection, or from a combination of both. It's wonderfully flexible and lots of fun.

- Web Browsing
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

- App Store
Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

- Zune Marketplace and iTunes
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

- UI
The HD's UI was a bold move that paid off. It may look cluttered and overly busy in screenshots, but to see it in action is to appreciate the design. It isn't always obvious, and the provided documentation is sparse, but a little experimentation will show you a UI with lots of flexibility, like a menu of favorites, newly added music, and a user-definable set of shortcuts to your favorite playlists, artists, HD Radio stations, etc. One quibble: it takes one too many clicks and touches to bring up the now playing screen after the display has 'gone to sleep' while you're listening to it. Other than that, the UI is delightful.

- Summary
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.

- Current Zune Owners
(See, I didn't forget you!) I think owners of any of the older flash players will be delighted at the upgrade, as long as money isn't an issue. Don't hesitate. Those who value the higher capacity of the 80gb or a 120gb will have a tougher choice. If you can't afford both, then you'll have to weigh the ability to be able to have all (or at least most) of your music stored on the device vs the HD radio, better display, and sleeker than a seal UI. As I said before, this new Zune is surprisingly small and light, and you should find one to get a feel for in person too, because then you can really evaluate how compelling those new features are to you. Oh, and don't forget it has an Equalizer if that matters!

Keep in mind: Microsoft has made it clear that the HD line is the future. They were great about giving new features to the older models in the past, but we're seeing a clear signal with the 4.0 Marketplace. Most of the cool new stuff is only going to the new kid on the block, and I think that will continue to be the case. They won't cut you out entirely, but if they're going to concentrate on making the HD succeed, then I suspect that is where most if not all of their future focus and effort will go.

Sorry for the huge review, but I'm really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it's the right choice for you.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Annoyed with apple for not putting the camera into the new touch.
Even more annoyed that apple did not release a new browser that supports flash with the faster processors.
Started looking at preordering a zune hd instead. Always liked OLED screens.
Then I found out that Zune HD does not support flash. Does not even have a youtube app!!!!

Lets look at my choices:
1) zune hd 32GB for $289 that does not support ANY streaming video period and does not have apps yet (even usless ones to waste my time)!
2) itouch 32GB for $299. Youtube support only and tons of useless apps but better than none, maybe!

As much as I have lost faith in apple (LOTS OF FAITH,in fact, I am PISSED!), I think I am going with the itouch. I have 3 laptops, a tablet and a netbook. I really want something that goes into my pocket and where I can still browse youtube at hotspots, apps that waste my time, while still carrying my music...

what does the zune give me that I cannot do with itouch?????? hdradio?????

Had to buy one to find out that I cannot watch my vids! returned it. (I am pissed at MS too, and all the on hand previewers at the tech sites that did not come out and say it) And the fact that MS covered up so much that I had to buy it to find out!

Just give me something small that supports FLASH properly so that I can get away from apple!Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Everything about this release shows that the Zune (brand) has now matured. The 4.0 software has much needed features, and is even more fun to use than the last version. The player itself is like a quantum leap from the previous generation Zunes. It's fair to say that the Zune can now compete with the iTouch.

Pros:
OLED - movies/games/navigation are all extremely vivid....even the music with the cover art and scrolling info are a nice visual touch
Apps - even though the offering is meager right now, it won't be long before some great games/apps start appearing on the marketplace.
HD Radio - this to me is still a must have for a PMP, especially with the ability to identify a song and purchase via the marketplace just by hearing on the HD Radio
Browser - while it's not the latest IE, it's still great to be able to browse the web via the same device
Navigation - the quicklist, the drill-down screen views, and the natural touch movements make this very easy to get used to

Cons:
Left button media control - this is actually harder to press than I originally thought, and this button comes in handy....it's not bad placement, it should just be either raised or as wide as the device itself
Screen size - I watch movies when I travel, and I wish the screen were just a tad bigger. The Zune80 had a good movie viewing screen.
Memory - Right now I have many pictures/podcasts/mp3's and I can only fit 5~6 movies. On the older Zune I had everything plus was able to fit an additional 30-40 movies. Would've been nice to offer a memory card slot, this would be a huge competitive advantage.

In any regard, this far exceeds my expectations and so far I'm completely satisfied.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Wow!!!! I am speechless with this Zune HD. It is by far the best Zune that Microsoft has come out with. I love everything about it. What i like most is the visualizer it shows after a while. It displays the background picture of that artist and the info on that song. Awesome!!!!! I am really satisfied with my Zune HD. First, I want to clairify that I say the zune HD is not the best microcomputer(itouch) but that it is the best media player in its field. While in some ways the zune HD competes with the itouch it more specifically targets the rest of the mp3 player market.

The touch screen is just as sensitive as a G1 or iphone would be but its 3.3" OLED (organic light emitting display)screen gives it beautiful video playback with true black and beautiful color, although the screen is a little on the small side. Its browser works fairly good and can render pages correctly on most websites, (gizmodo, Engadget,politico,ect..) and will hopefully only get better development with time.

HD radio increases overall quality and signal strength of FM radio for those who are die-hard FM listeners, and the few games and apps. that are available are of the highest quality and FREE. ON the software side the potential uses for the zune pass as well as great podcast integration and mixview and smart dj round out the best music experience of any service available today.
The build quality is top notch and the glass, aluminum construction make the device light but strong. It has a unique brushed aluminum feel thats unique to zune. Aside from the screen this thing could take a heavy fall on its side or back.

The optional dock also makes it a great media center and playing HD 720p content from the device is very nice. The interface is smooth and videos look great. Wireless sync is very handy also.
Overall this is a well rounded device that incorporates, radio, video, podcasts, and music into a small and lovely device. Anyone who isnt strongly craving an apple branded device should look into the zune community because its unlike another music experience (itunes, rapsody, ect) that I have tried before. While the zune HD isnt the computing powerhouse (apps, games) that the ipod line is, the promise for future applications, browser support and rich multimedia abilities make it a strong contender. I bought this thing on the 15th and I Im never looking back.

This device is wonderful. I have to admit that I have never owned an IPOD of any sort, but I have used friends IPODs and Phones and in my opinion this is a superior device. Every single aspect of the Zune experience is fantastic. I'm not going to go into detail on each feature, it has been done and they are all correct. Do not listen to the negative reviews that were copied and pasted from an IPOD fan site, check out YOUTUBE, other reviews on here, and make sure they are independant. There are fanboys from both sides who will say anything for their company. There are more than enough positive reviews of this device to convince you that they are not all biased.

I love my new zunhd but since I and stationed in Japan there are alot of features I can't even use because of the country restrictions. I can't use the HD Radio, or rent movies, but even without those features It's still great. I can't wait till I get back to the states and try them out. My fiance is deployed to Afghanistan and I've ordered her one as well. She wants it for watching movies and playing games cause she doesn't have a laptop. She's planning on getting the zunepass to have all the music she wants.

Bottom Line: If you want the best media player with the best service, this is it.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Microsoft's Zune HD is quite frankly the best portable media player ever released. The hardware is absolutely gorgeous. The OLED screen is a first for the industry and is completely jaw-dropping. The brushed metal exterior and minimialist design is sure to induce jealousy in Apple fanboys everywhere. The Zune operating system is extremely fun to use, and the Nvidia Tegra chip inside ensures that there is never stuttering or slowness in the UI. Everything flows as smooth as silk. The Zune HD also includes an HD/FM Radio tuner, a web browser, and apps (only 9 at launch).

The Zune PC software makes it enjoyable to discover music again, especially if you're used to the mind-numbingly ugly and bloated iTunes experience. All in all, for music and video you can't do better than the Zune HD. Microsoft has finally innovated past Apple and created the sexiest device of the decade. People looking for a richer media experience and those who hate Apple and the iPod/iTunes ecosystem will find a lot to like in this fantastic product.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

This is by far the most perfect gadget I have owned to date.. I am what you call a technology freak/geek. I buy pretty much any new "gadget" I can get my hands on, so I would like to think that I know a thing or two about what makes them good or bad.

Anyways, I have owned a 30gb Ipod, a zune 30, 8, and 80, and the most recent; the iTouch. None of them can come close the quality and perfection of the Zune HD. The device itself is just drop dead gorgeous and well put together. It's thin, light, fast, and simple. The UI is screaming fast and flawless, it beats the iTouch by a landslide. Whenever you touch something on the screen there is a awesome animation that goes along with it. The HD radio is a huge plus and works really good.

My favorite feature is when you are playing a song (mostly from more popular artists) it shows their bio info behind the album art, looks very cool.(note: wi-fi has to be on)
Last but not least, to go along with the amazing device, the zune software has been updated and in my opinion is the most well designed, and beautiful piece of media software ever.

If you are debating between the itouch and the Zune HD, I would no doubt go with the Zune.... Take if form someone that owns both.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

I am a music junkie and tried lots of different portable music/video players in the last few years. All of them had pros and cons: Some had small storage, other low battery life, or bad audio quality. Almost all of them sucked at video playback.

I borrowed my friends Zune HD yesterday for half an hour, and I WAS BLOWN AWAY. The display quality is so good, I find myself staring at it for hours. Audio quality rocks, the presentation (artist info, images, zune store integration, ....), extra free games and other applications, all awesome. I ordered the 16GB version from Amazon yesterday, can't wait till it arrives!

Zune Pass is also a great service: UNLIMITED SONGS for a small fee per month, worth every penny. You also get to keep 10 songs, completely yours forever, for free!

The smart DJ feature suggests new songs to you based on the songs you like/listen. The best part is if you have Zune Pass subscription, it searches the whole Zune music library for you! Kind of like Pandora, but better!

Zune HD also has FREE games, which comes very handy during long flights.

Where To Buy Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

All right, I'm gonna make this as unbiased as possible, as too many reviews claim its either great or awful. The truth is, it's a great device for what it was made for: a Pocket Media Player, with some frills. If you want a do-all system that has downloadable application and youtube support, plus the ability to play audio and video, go for the iPod Touch. However, if you want one of the best MP3 and Video player on the market, and aren't so concerned about browsing online or downloading new apps, go for the new Zune HD.

As far as unique features that the iPod don't have, the best are probably HD Radio and the OLED screen. While the iPod has a beautiful screen, the Zune stands out because of the better colors that stand out more. However, the screen size on the Zune is a little smaller, so if size is an issue, the iPod might be a better choice for you. But for a PMP, I prefer how the image looks over size. Also, HD FM radio is fantastic. I only have a single station in my area that currently uses it, but the differences in quality are quite noticable. On top of that, if you are on the fringe of losing your HD FM signal, it automatically and seamlessly switches to the standard FM feed. Very nice indeed.

The interface is the biggest reason why this thing is better than an iPod as a PMP. The GUI is much more attractive, and more intuitive to navigate if you are using it primarily as an MP3 or video player. Unfortunately, the downloadable apps (what few are there) are just bundled in a menu, with no good way of organizing them. You can pin favorites to your "desktop", but that's as far as you can get as far as customizing your apps. the iPod still runs away with it in this category. Also, the sheer selection of the apps you can get for your iPod means that Microsoft has an uphill battle ahead of them if they want to compete on this front. It's not impossible, there's just a lot of work to be done.

Web browsing was a little slower on the Zune, but still light years better than Windows Mobile units. If it weren't for Safari on the iPod, the Zune HD would have the best mobile browser on the market today. I'm sure if they tweak it a bit for speed and add a couple features (like change the way the page is formatted on the screen, sort of like what you can do on the LG Dare), they could easily overtake iPods Safari.

As far as music downloading goes, Zune wins hands down. Apple has a great itunes store that works great for buying songs, but Zune has their 15 dollar a month plan for unlimited music downloads, and you get 10 free MP3s that you keep FOREVER (even if you get rid of the Zune Pass service) every month. For the same price, you can buy a regular full album from itunes. Zune Pass is definately the better deal, as you get your album plus a months worth of whatever else you wanna listen to.

An unknown at this point is the nvidia Tegra chip inside the Zune HD, able to push some major graphics. So far, nothing really utilizes it impressively, but some games coming in the future this fall (2009) are slated to change that.

Overall, if you want a do-all machine that works well, the iPod is still your choice, although it may not be in a few months after Microsoft tweaks the Zune HD some. However, if your main concern is audio and video on your handheld, go with a Zune, you won't regret it. If I could I'd rate it 3 1/2 stars, but we'll boost it to 4 for now just due to the unknown features of the Tegra chip and the fact that this player will improve with every update.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Just going to give a quick run down on notable points from my experience.(- for bad. + for good)

-Radio reception is not that great. It is picking up on too much interference for me.
-Browser is terrible. Not much of a big deal as I didn't plan on browsing on it. Will use my iPhone for that.
+Zune Pass is just great. Finding an album in the Marketplace and just right clicking the art and choosing Sync To Device is, well, great.
+Audio quality is really good. Really is better than any iProduct I have used.
+The screen really is beautiful when viewing videos on it.
-/+The main UI feels too 'busy' to me. But everyones sense of aesthetic is different so your mileage may vary.
+One good thing about the music UI is being able to pull up extra information about the artist and pictures. I would like to see a little more done with that though. Perhaps interview videos (maybe some albums do this?). And how about lyrics?
-/+Smart DJ. Not as accurate as the iTunes Genius in my experience so far. But this I assume will get better as more people use it. I have more non mainstream tastes though so this could be a factor as well.
+Smart DJ and Zune Pass together. Now this is awesome. Make a Smart DJ playlist and it will pull music from the Marketplace as well as your collection.
-Weight. I think it feels too light. Could use a little weight. I know that seems strange to want something to be heavier, but it always feels like I am about to drop it.

All in all a really great media player. Microsoft needs to not get sloppy and just sit on their hands doing nothing to improve the device via software updates if they want to give the iPod Touch a run for it's money. MS has really done much better in their consumer products lately so I have hope I will see some really nice updates down the road.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Microsoft has outdone themselves this time with the Zune HD. Beautiful OLED screen, slick software, 720p output, HD radio, and good web browser. The Zune UI is fantastic, if a little minimalistic at first. The device is very light. I wish that the player would support more video formats, like mkv for HD content. The HD AV dock and Car kit are very good, but overpriced. I hope that Microsoft knows that this needs a great app store, which of the iPod Touch has over this device. The XNA has been opened up to Zune HD developers however.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) Review

I bought the new ZuneHD on the release day. I have been using the Zune 120 for a year and love it. I should mention that I have an iPhone but I don't keep any media on it. The Zune and it's software is, in my opinion, much better than Apples offerings.
I have yet to read a review that doesn't kill the ZuneHD because of it's lack of app's. I must be in the minority here, but I like the Zune because of how it handles all my media. It's a PMP, not a computer, not a camera, not a GPS.

Microsoft should be commended for going into this space and bring to market such a well thought out device. If you're into music, video and podcasts, there is no way that you can tell me that you like using the iTouch over the ZuneHD (UI). The Zune provides such a rich experience on the player when compared to Apple.
The UI is amazing. I can get to all my media very quickly. The "Alpha" input is quick & awesome. Once you hit play, adjusting volume and forward/backward controls is a snap. Having access to artist bio and pictures on the device is very cool.

The ZuneHD is small and light, and is ideal for people who are active. Try running with an iTouch in your pocket! The ZuneHD, because of its size a weight, can not only fit into your pocket easily, but when running you will hardly know it's there.
Review the ZuneHD for what it is, a great media player, not a computer. I will tell any iPod user, spend a week with the ZuneHD and you will buy one, it's just that good.
