Lowest Price Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

[EDITED to clarify that I was referring to Adobe Flash, not flash storage. It has plenty of storage, it just can't play back most videos online with its browser.]

For me, this device is worth the purchase price for the OLED and HD Radio capability alone, however, continued lack of browser Adobe Flash support will limit its "iPod-killer" hopes. The iPod's market share (yes, the iPod also lacks Flash capability) will be too much for Zune unless Microsoft can introduce something that *really* tops an iPod--Flash capability would have been that killer capability. Too bad.

Also, my experience with Zune support has been very poor (support number rings in the Philippines, and Microsoft has given the CSRs there very limited capabilities to fix problems--CSRs can't, for example, credit back Microsoft Points).

Buy it anyway (but buy it used)!Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Low Price Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

Microsoft has decided that its new Zune player does not need much storage. Even the old Zune was available in a 120 GB hard drive model. The Zune HD is available only with flash drives. The largest capacity Zune HD is 32 GB. If you have more than 32 GB of music or video, the Zune HD will not work for you.

Apple offers a 160 Gb iPod for those like me with large music and video collections. Will Microsoft never learn how to make a decent portable music player?

Let me start off this review by saying I'm pretty non-biased when it comes to technology products, unlike some people who have already reviewed this product in a completely idiotic and non-informal way. I own an iPhone (comparable to the iPod Touch) and a previous-gen Zune 80GB. So let's start off the review by discussing why I think this product is far superior to the iPod Touch:

-OLED Screen
The screen allows for crisper colors than the iPod Touch can handle (deeper blacks for instance). This is going to be fantastic for watching movies and playing games.

-Slickest UI on the market
Have you seen videos of this device in action? It's drop dead beautiful. The UI is extremely slick and very visual. Unlike the iPod Touch, Microsoft has focused on working with high end typography and insanely modern visual techniques to create a really rich experience. The iPod Touch's interface is very static in comparison. The Zune HD offers information about artists, pictures of artists, and other small but rich details when you listen to a song all in a very graphical way (without even having to connect to Wifi).

-Internet browser
The browser on the Zune is just as good as Mobile Safair on the iPod Touch/iPhone. It's nothing revolutionary but it's a nice feature. It features everything you'd expect in a browser today, tap to zoom and a quick and easy multi-touch keyboard.

-HD Radio
This is some very cool new technology. Apple just finally offered FM radio in the iPod Nano (something the original Zune 30gb had). HD radio is being more widely adopted in many markets. It's a great way to hear new types of music as the stations are a lot more vast and focused on new markets where FM radio has become very static and predictable. There is also an FM radio for your enjoyment as well.

-Zune 4.0 Software is EXCELLENT
Are you a music lover? Drop iTunes. The Zune 4.0 software is for people who love music. It includes some of the best ways to organize your albums and also is very ahead in terms of design. iTunes 9.0 attempted to catch up with the Zune software but still falls flat. The Zune software has tons of very rich gradients and free flowing animations that make it a very breathtaking experience. With the Zune software you can also get a Zune pass and stream millions of songs for a low monthly rate.

-Dedicated Apps/Game
As already confirmed, the Zune has dedicated applications and games. Unlike the iPod/iPhone's app store though, Microsoft has decided to focus on working hand in hand with 3rd party developers instead of releasing a SDK kit for users to create their own games/apps. Some people may look at this as very negative, but I see a far more positive side to this. On my iPhone I have several games and apps, all of which usually fall flat to what they could be. Too many apps being released are ridiculously retarded like "fart apps". A game already confirmed is a Project Gotham Racing game, which will probably be similar to the experience on the Xbox/Xbox 360. Microsoft will also be releasing a Twitter app, Facebook, and others by the end of the year. More information: "Later this year, Zune plans to release free applications such as Twitter for Zune and Facebook for Zune, in addition to fun 3-D games such as "Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition," "Vans Sk8: Pool Service" and "Audiosurf(TM) Tilt." Games can be added to Zune HD via Zune Marketplace over the Wi-Fi connection or when connected to the Zune PC software."

All I can seriously suggest is be open-minded to the Zune experience. Just because all your friends/family have an iPod/iPod Touch doesn't make it the best on the market right now. The Zune HD's technology is superior in the marketplace right now. The entire experience on the Zune is also really well thought out and gives music lovers (myself and hopefully you if you're reading this!) a great way to see information on your favorite artists/songs. Overall, the Zune HD is an amazing product. Buy it now if you're a fan of music and want a great overall ecosystem being constantly updated by Microsoft. Sorry for no narration, my allergies are kicking my voice's [...]
This is my first shot at a video review. Be nice. If you'd like to read instead, here you go:

from earlier today:
I have unboxed my new ZUNE HD 16GB.
I have updated my Zune as prompted upon connecting it.
I am noticing that in the new Zune Marketplace, some apps and games are already available - hey, all of those cool apps for the touch and iPhone didn't show up instantaneously you know!
I will be upfront and tell you I simply don't have time to review every facet of this device's offerings, nor do I have time to do the same for the new Zune software.
I'm doing this so that you get an honest experience versus a factless rant.
It is my guess that most people have never really actually played with the Zune software so I will try to document it as best I can.
I prefer products that are alternatives to Apple but I don't specifically avoid Apple. If IBM was making the Zune HD, I would have wanted one just the same.

I will do bullets here and if you have questions, post them, I'll try to answer them.

* packaged nicely. It was like opening a secret treasure chest
* includes ear buds (nothing fancy, actually they are same as what came with my Zune 8GB)
* includes sync/charge cable. Same connectors as my Zune 8GB cable. Which means I likely will be able to use my existing Zune dock
* Downloaded the Zune 4.0 software this morning.
* Connected Zune to computer. Asked me to confirm software update. Message on screen said device was at 4.0 and it would update it to 4.1. It did and it did it with no issues.
* APPS. Yes, APPS. Not many, only a few for now, like Weather and Calculator.
* GAMES. Yes, for now; Sudoku, Space Battle 2 (Non-HD Zunes had Space Battle 1), Chess, etc. You know, the basics for now.
* Device is charging so I can't play with it yet. The protective sticker on the Zune HD said, "Charge for 30 minutes before using". That is what I am doing.
* Zune 4.0 Marketplace and software are very nice. Not insanely different from the 3.0 marketplace but obvious updates include: Apps (games are here), DJ SmartMix feature, the software works faster, and more. Also the nifty little mini player feature.
* Mini player - as stated, its nifty. Click the little icon in the Zune software, and the music player mode comes up. Watch my video when it is ready.
* No issues so far. Some items like the Social (this is where you can befriend other Zune users), Profile, and earlier today the Marketplace, have been randomly unavailable for a few moments at a time. Nothing annoying. Quite honestly all of my music is on a computer I don't have here right now, so I will wait to connect this to that one so I can sync my music, and update my profile and social info.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

This is the best, its a feature packed and easy to use mp3 player. with one press you music is shuffled and played. you can wirelessly stream you library over wi-fi, TV out at 720P, and the most beautiful and responsive user interface/ operating system on an MP3/ PMP, easily outshining the the Ipod touch in all but application availability, but more apps are coming soon and fast.

Then the Zune software. not only is it the most beautiful music manager i have seen but it also is also the easiest. organizing Meta data is the easiest its every been, easier that I tunes. Discovering new music has never been easier with the zine pass, download unlimited songs from the Zune markets place and keep 10 of your choosing at the end of each month. Its like buying a CD every month and getting everything else for free. this is not music renting, you can listen to the songs all you want as long as you are subscribed, and special "channels" designed to mimic your music tastes and introduce you to new music will be made, these are playlists that change weekly with new and undiscovered content that you may enjoy all you want, and with wireless sync you can sync these lists from your Zune dock in your room even if your PC in in another room. Zune is a fantastic replacement for Ipod, i see no reason not to switch, other than you have a ton of music from Itunes.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Buying Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

Microsoft did an outstanding job with this media device. It is far sleeker than my iPod touch. Having used an ipod touch, the interface and the features on the Zune are far better. You get impressive features on the Zune. HD radio sounds great. OLED Screen is fantastic. The device is extremely light and very well built. Battery life is great as well.

I've been using Zune 4.0 software all day and the changes and the updates are very good. Zune Software blows away iTunes. It is much sleeker and is not a processor hog.

The great thing about the Zune Marketplace is for $15 a month you can download unlimited music to keep for as long as you have the service. Plus you get to keep 10 songs a month of your choice, and you can share the same subscription with up to 3 Zunes. That is fantastic for a family. I bought a Zune for my daughter as well and it's great that we can both download unlimited music for only $15 a month. She downloads hundreds of songs a month, that would cost a fortune with the iPOD, but not with the Zune Marketplace. Sure you only get to keep 10 a month, but most people get sick of songs fairly quickly. And if you keep your subscription that will never be a problem. So with keeping 10 songs a month that means you're only paying $5 a month for unlimited music. FANTASTIC.

The OLED display is so crisp and beautiful. Pictures don't do it justice. It is extremely responsive, far nicer than my iPOD touch.

Right now there are about 11 Apps in the Zune Marketplace and they are all free (included with the subscription) which is great.

I have no complaints about this device. I purchased it with the dock, and man does the picture look great on my TV. The Zune outputs videos without any problems or hesitation. Truly a great device. I highly recommend and definitely recommend that you play around with it for yourself, because pictures truly don't do it justice.

I bought this on launch day (today). The first thing I noticed when I unpacked it is that the sync cable stinks (very strong chemical smell). I have a headache from it sitting on my desk.

My second out of the box experience is that you can't do anything with the device until you install the Microsoft software. It says 200MB of free space required. I had 600MB so I thought I should be fine. Nope, after about 5 minutes the install quits with a totally useless error referencing a knowledge base article that has about a dozen possible causes. I deleted some files, but the second time it didn't even get as far as the first and there wasn't even an error message (just a link to a different MS knowledge base article).

I eventually got the software installed after freeing up a couple of gigs and I was able to copy some music and play it. Plays fine but I haven't been able to figure out how to download any apps (even the calculator) and annoyingly the playback stops when it connects to the PC. I also signed up for the Zune subscription trial, but it's not immediately clear how to use that either. Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

I love the Zune HD. It's small, it's speedy and the interface is very intuitive. A great device. Any Zuner would be very happy with it. I have the 16GB version (in black). The device supports unicode, has an EQ, and volume goes to 30 (previous models went to 20). The HD radio is very crisp and clean. The browser is great (even though it is based on IE6 mobile) and is very snappy and responsive.

Really a Zuner can't go wrong with this device. The PC software is equally as good.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

First of all the best thing it the UI(user interface) its really easy to navigate and sexy. And sexy reminds me of the zune hd. The Zune hd is well build you dont feel any plastic. Screen is crisp and clear. With its Oled screen you can see the screen at every angle. Watching videos is well recommended. Oh,and it outputs 720p to your Tv with a dock.(dont have it best buy only shipped 5 and they were sold). What makes the zune soo good is its love with music. If you are connected to wifi it will streamed bio, photos, backgrounds, and even songs(with zune pass). Internet is basic. Pretty fast, missing flash...update?? I almost forgot the accelerometer is the fastest one i have ever seen. Apps they have like 7 games, weather and calculator. Microsoft is doing the apps with 3rd party developers. This is gonna grow. Zune plans to release free applications such as Twitter for Zune and Facebook for Zune, in addition to fun 3-D games such as "Project Gotham Racing: Ferrari Edition," "Vans Sk8: Pool Service" and "Audiosurf(TM) Tilt." Games can be added to Zune HD via Zune Marketplace over the Wi-Fi connection or when connected to the Zune PC software. And with the zune released they updated the zune software(4.0). It brings a new Quickplay menu. There you have new things added(i.e videos, pictures and songs), Smart Dj(same as itunes,But if you have the zune pass...not only search your libary for same music taste but it search the Marketplace!!!This is awesome for people who love music. This way you can listened to new music and discover artist of your same taste), and alot more. Dont forget the social. You can meet people on the forums and add them as your friends. Share musis is easy here. You can send music to your friends. You can rent or buy(some of them) movies. I can keep talking of the features and im not going to end.

Where To Buy Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

The new Zune Player comes close to being perfect. The OLED display is stunning. The Zune software is still a little clunky, but it is certainly not as bad as iTunes.

The only things that keeps it from being 5 out of 5 are the earphones and the documentation.

Like most of the new electronic products sold today, there is minimal documentation. Fortunately, the Zune HD32 is pretty easy to figure out. Microsoft is no worse than other manufacturers, I just hate the trend to save money on manuals.

However, the earphones that they ship with this product are inexcusable. The previous generation of earphones shipped with the Zune 80 were perfect. Microsoft took a giant step backwards when they included the clunky and very cheap iPod style earphones.

If you are considering this product, I would plan on buying the Zune Premium headphones. They are worth the price. If Microsoft had included the premium headphones, I would give them a perfect 5 stars. Zune Premium Headphones v2Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

I would congratulate microsoft for making such products ( zune and zune 4.0 s/w). Before I start - I already own iPhone and brown zune original(which is locked in my cupboard). Wanted seprate music player as iPhone battery dies after 4 hr talktime or if i keep it lying for more than half a day. Don't get me wrong i love my iphone equally :).

Pros:
1. DJ Feature.
2. Quickplay or shortcuts.
3. jaw dropping effects.
4. gorgeous OLED screen
5. decent browser
6. ultimate hardware
7. tv-out functionality in HD ( i need that because i travel and i would be happy to play my videos than watching japanese tv)
8. HD radio. ( personally not a big fan)
9. zune marketplace ( which i tried today only and it is good ). i prefer renting/buying movies from here rather than itunes(itunes 9 - bad design)
10. zune pass.

Cons:
1. No great selection of apps ( not huge for me as I carry iphone and zune but for some it may be issue) but i would rather have apps (good apps not junk as apple store has) on zune then iphone because of such gorgeous screen.
2. DJ Mix is good but why i can't play songs fading like in itunes? ( 5-12 sec fading)
3. Don't stop playing my music when i connect that to my pc. It takes me time to open zune and play exact same song. Please fix this!
4. Give me a way to import my itunes playlist which i have created over time. its painful loosing all the playlist and when you do so make sure you import metadata too like play count etc. I rely on my playcount to create playlist.
5. screws!!!seriously microsoft what were you thinking? i don't like the idea of opening my zune though great for personalization/replacement in case where you break the cover etc. But don't make it so easy and don't make it visible. It is gorgeous piece of h/w. please keep it like that.

Considering everything, zune HD blows me away with zune 4.0. I know some of the cons can be easily changed by mere s/w change so im sticking to my zune hd which has great hardware.

Suggestion:
1. Ability to play xbox titles ( scaled down version )would be awesome. Zune could be a huge hit if xbox titles come with mini games on zune and provide coupon to buy free zune game with purchase of original title on xbox.
2. Also, a little netfilx app (streaming video) would help a long way, which would be a direct blow to apple & apple tv(anyone remember that). I could then use my zune to stream video via netflix to my tv ( cool concept ). Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

Having my entire CD collection on the computer, I was looking for a portable player that would interface easily with my PC and was not complicated to use. The era of the portable CD player ended long ago, so it was time for me to get updated. I received an e-mail earlier today (9-15-09) from the Windows 7 team blog which discussed the new Zune software and its optimization with Windows 7, as I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate as a beta tester for MicroSoft. I picked up the Zune HD 16GB unit at a local retailer who just got them in this afternoon. I have been thoroughly impressed with the unit thus far.

Once the software has been installed and updated, it is easy to use and fairly self-explanatory. The software identifies all your music, video, and picture files which you can easily drag and drop onto the Zune player icon to transfer to the unit. Within 10 minutes I had 5 albums, 3 videos and 4 trip picture folders transfered to my Zune with a few clicks. They play great! I downloaded a couple of tunes utilizing the 14 day free trial zune pass, and the HD radio is awsome. It seeks and finds local stations quickly. The wireless (802.11 WiFi) sync works well through my network here at the house so I can sync to both my PC's, and I think my PS3 as well (I have not tried that yet).

The WiFi connection is also great to access the internet on the unit, and I was able to access my favorite pages (My Yahoo, Amazon, Facebook etc)quickly and easily. I particularly like the large screen. The touch controls are intuitive and easy with great colors and graphics. As I indicated earlier, the video reproduction is awsome and I was able to set one of my own pictures as the background immediately! I like the fact that there is no spinning hard drive in the Zune HD, flash is much better. For those who say it does not have enough storage, I say over 4000 songs is more than enough and 5 hours of HD video is quite sufficient for most users. I give the Zune HD 16GB ***** 5 Stars *****Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) Best Quality

Zune was the laughing stock a couple of years ago when Microsoft released the "brick" 1st-gen Zune. A joke went around about Microsoft's pathetic attempt to enter the "iPod market." So a year passed, and Zune remained a joke in the consumer electronics world and had to endure the jeers and torment of the Apple crowd. When the 2nd Gen Zunes came out, the Zune brand slowly started to see redemption. The Zune 80gb was deemed the first decent competitor to the iPod, but the brand was still in recovery from its hazing.

But for the first time, Microsoft has developed a Zune player that can finally use the words "downright sexy" to describe it. The Zune brand image is building up quickly with the release of the Zune HD, XBOX Live integration, and much-needed marketing.

With the rapid rise of the iPod Touch and iPhone, it's no surprise Microsoft came up with a touchscreen portable media player of its own. However, this is not a copy of the iPod touch at all. Sure the Zune HD features a touchscreen, accelerometer, app support, a strong web browser and other features that made the iPod Touch so popular.

However, the Zune HD has what the iPod Touch lacks, such as...

-ZunePass (Download all the music you want for $15/month, keep 10 songs per month DRM-Free)
-720p HDMI output
-An aesthetically nice software (Zune 4.0 interface is very pretty to look at, not a dull spreadsheet like iTunes)
-An aesthetically nice device OS (Artist pictures and info float around while playing a song, it's cool)
-OLED screen (brighter, more vibrant than LCD)
-Free HD radio
-Radio "tagging" (If you like a song you hear on the radio, "tag" it to add it to your cart for download)
-XBOX Live integration
-An advanced nVidia Tegra Chip (A couple of graphically-intense 3D games are coming out this fall, like Burnout: Ferrari Edition)
-On-demand music (play music online with your Zune HD, don't need to download it to your hard drive)

Again, the Zune HD is just simply amazing. With the Nvidia Tegra chip and highly capable processor, the potential for this device is endless. The Zune HD is supposed to be a portable gaming platform to compete head-to-head with the Nintendo DS and PSP brands. I'm excited to see Burnout: Ferrari Edition on it this fall. I'm also looking forward to see more apps as well.

Could this device take significant market share from Apple's iPod Touch? With the right marketing to increase public awareness of this product, yes it definitely can. Every large monopolizing entity like Kmart, GM, and even Apple will dominate a market completely for some period of time. However, times change and something better always comes along. Is this Zune HD the better alternative to the iPod? With some more releases in the app store and updates, it clearly will be. The question is will Apple change and copy the Zune's features including the Zune Pass? I don't know, we'll see. The Zune Pass will clearly become the new standard of digital music services and the $1-per-song marketplace model will not be competitive much longer.

***UPDATE***

I've been getting a lot of comments on my review saying that the Zune's HD radio does not compensate for the lack of online radio services found on the iPod Touch (such as Pandora). I believe I already said in my review that with some more app development the Zune HD will be a strong competitor to the iPod Touch, and that includes online radio apps.

I also forgot to add the Zune HD does not have an external speaker. If that's a super-important feature to you, the iPod Touch may suit you for now. However you can always get headphone couplers or battery-powered mini-speakers to remedy this. Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) Get it now!

Yup. If you expected a ton of apps on the Zune Marketplace then you will be disappointed. It turns out that Microsoft does not currently have plans to provide a Software Development Kit for third party developers anytime soon (they just said it will happen eventually). What does this mean? Well, it means you will have to be content with MSN Weather, a calculator, and a handful of flash-like games like chess and solitaire (not even a Twitter or Facebook app which are included for free in a a lot of other similar devices, those are coming "later this year" apparently. Woop dee doo). Don't believe me? Download the new Zune software (no Zune required) and check out the Apps section.

Here is the reason why, straight out of the mouth of Brian Seitz, Microsoft's Zune marketing manager, in an interview with the Seattle Times:

"Right now our product roadmaps [referring to their Zune and Windows Mobile strategies] didn't line up perfectly for us to snap to what they're doing or vice versa... Down the road if [IF? uh oh] there's a way we can work with Windows Mobile or another group inside the company that's building an app store and take advantage of that, that's something we'll look into."

So there you have it. The Zune HD is apparently just another product rushed to market in order to make the profitable holiday window, a second thought if you will, and Windows Mobile appears to be their real focus at this time. Basically, you are paying for an incomplete product/service... and you get to pay Microsoft a nice couple of Benjamins to beta test it. Yay.

Now to be fair, the Zune HD does appear to be a solid music player, so if that is all you are looking for then I am sure it will be well worth the money, just keep in mind that it is not the best choice out there currently.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

As I sit here with my new Zune HD in my hot little hand, I am beyond stunned to learn that the Zune software will not install on Windows XP 64 bit version.

I suppose Microsoft finds it more important to try to force me to downgrade to Vista 64 instead of making a happy customer. And no, I am not one of those mindless Apple fanboys that hates everything Microsoft, but I definitely feel their hate right now.

That all being said, I've found a few hacks for older versions of the Zune software, but none seem to work for the newest version(s).

Is my only option to really send this back? I really do want this to work for me without having to change my O/S, which is absolutely ridiculous.

I own both an iphone and now an zune HD. The zune hd is great, the iphone is great for an mp3 player as well but the zune pass on the zune hd is awesome. Unlimited music for on $15 a month is a great deal, plus you get to keep 10 songs a month. The oled screen looks crisp and the weight of this thing is nothing. I was so surprised when I picked this thing up. The only complaints I have is that the headphone jack is not on the top of the device and the optional HD dock is another $90. The headphone jack is nothing major I have just grown used to it being on the top of every player I have ever owned. The Dock is something I plan on picking up in the next couple months after I finish paying off the zune HD. Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

This is the best Mediaplayer on the market now. Ignore those stupid reviews by the Apple fanboys. I have owned a few IPod and ITouch. They are good products but not good media players at all. Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Cheapest Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

I picked up the 32 Gig Zune yesterday. Hands down it's the best device made to date. I don't like Apple because they limit you to there music formats. I'm not interested with I-Tunes. Especially now that Real player will let you grab any mp-3 file of You Tube for free. Just play any MP3 or Video off youtube and real player lets you download it and convert it to a MP-3. Even if it's a video it will extract the audio track. The screen is crystal clear and you'll have no problem seeing it outside. The touch screen blows away anything Apple has out, it's very responsive. I read that there will be a 64 Gig model out around the Holidays and a large assorment of App's around that time as well. I love it and have no regrests at all, and I've owned many other devices over the years. I was always a creative Zen fan but this just changed my mind. Zune HD Rocks.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Absolutely FANTASTIC. i can't get over how worth the wait the zune HD was. with its slick interface and fantastic style, it is a sure contender against the ipod. Keep it up Microsoft! This one is a winner.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Buying Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

I like the sound quality, the compact size, the screen clarity, the screen color and brightness, the free games are fun (and show the potential), I love the interface, and the new marketplace is better than ITunes imo. What I dont like, the Zune pass being $15 when you only get to keep 10 songs, the price of video content, the fm radio doesnt pick up signal well enough, and the number of buttons (I feel like they didnt really need the one on the side...)Overall I am glad I purchased this product and have no regrets about getting this over the bulky Ipod Touch. Good job micro$oft! The only stipulation is that there needs to be more apps (which I am sure on coming).Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Buy Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

Pros: Slim, Sleek design, OLED Screen is beautiful, sounds better than the iPods.

Cons: Zune Marketplace, Transferring videos from iTunes, Smaller screen vs. Touch.

I really like this. I bought the 16gb Zune HD, because I don't have much music to put on it (92 songs, some episodes of TV shows I burned). It's smaller than I anticipated. The screen is no where near the size of an iPod Touch, but the color on it is AAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMAZING! It's really beautiful, so beautiful that after awhile, it's size didn't matter that much. The sound is better than the iPod touch in that you hear things in the songs you wouldn't hear otherwise in any iPod. The music now has more detail. The only grip I had with the Zune HD as far as sound is the volume limit is 1-30 (I'm on 21 now, but that's loud enough for me). I transferred most of my iTunes collection to the Zune HD, except for 9 videos (which I know are all DRM free). For some reason, Zune can't pick them up, I can't drag and drop them either. If someone can help me out with this, I would really appreciated it.

Now, the thing I hate the most about the Zune HD is the Zune Marketplace. Coming from iTunes, I expected to buy what I wanted. Now I have to buy points, then I have to use those points to get what I want. And sometimes the songs I want aren't available for download, or you have to BUY THEM WITH MONEY! Which defeats the purpose of the point system. This is so furstrating! Oh! I also hate the earbuds that come with the Zune. They are really cheap and plastic. Luckily I have a pair of V-moda's which made the Zune HD sound incredible. But I like it, it just going to take some getting used to.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, I had to return my 16gb Zune to Best Buy because the battery would die rather quickly. I'm ordering online and getting a 32gb instead. The battery is supposed to be "better" on the 32gb (according to Microsoft support). I will write another review for the 32gb.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Purchase Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

I received this device yesterday at around 1:30pm. Thanks release day delivery! I have never had a touch screen device before, and i have been worried about the lack of a tactile response when using the device. In the short time i've had it though i can say it works very well, though there is a slight learning curve. It's nothing too difficult, and the interface is very intuitive- once you figure out how it works it seems just brilliant! Music playing is fantastic and very eye candy-ish with the shots of the musicians scrolling in the background. Sound quality is of course superior. The screen lock is cool, everything on this device just screams functional luxury. love the screws on the back, makes it look very sharp and well made, like a fine watch or something. 4 stars because i just am not in love with the touch interface but everything is so great, maybe it will grow on me.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Order Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum)

I have had multiple MP3 Players and video players. This one is by far the best. I can not compare it to the iPod because I have never owned one, but I have used my sisters. But not owning one and spending significant time with it and updating it would be unfair. However I have owned about all the Creative models and several Sansa. I am hard on MP3 players, they go to the gym with me, and I live in Michigan so they go out with me to shovel snow in the cold of winter and the heat of summer to mow lawn. This one is by far the best, i sure hope it stands the test of time, but it is not to say it is without some flaws in the software which I hope they fix.

First off is is extremely light, this think you do not really know it is there. Also the ability to just walk in the house and hit sync and have it sync everything without plugging it in is a great feature. I also like how the controls work and the speed of the device to do what I want. However, the one thing is which I could find no information on anywhere even on Amazons site is that it only comes with a USB cord that you have to use to charge the device and the initial setup. However after the initial setup the wireless sync would be optimal for me rather than plugging it in to the PC every night then leaving the PC on and letting it charge. So I will have to invest in a wall outlet charging adapter and probably a car adapter.

The Zune software on the device, again I have only had it a day, is a little clunky in some parts but overall I would give it an A-. If you are looking to play music, and videos and podcasts it is quick easy and fast to get going with default behavior, which leads me to some of my instant dislikes. Some of the problem with it is that I might not have figured out where to adjust or set something away from the default behavior. Which leads me to the biggest problem, getting help on how to do something with the device. This seems pretty non existent. If you get an error there is a link to a really good article on the web about the error and what causes the error and how to fix and resolve the error. This is great and a great feature to have, I mean this is really great because I got 2 different errors syncing files and the error had a link that took me to the web and told me exactly what to do. But say you want to change something for example, Podcasts. They download and sync to your device flawlessly. However say the podcast you have is a daily one and you do not listen to it daily you let it build up maybe a week at a time. Well they come in a chronological order, and the podcast from today may reference something from yesterday. When you go to podcast and click on the podcast to start playing all of them in the Zune well it plays from newest to oldest. So you can not just go play them all in the order they were meant to be in. I really want to change this so it plays the oldest to the newest. However there doesn't either seem to be a way to do this or I can't find it. So now I have to go into each podcast and scroll to the bottom of the list and play them each one at a time. If there is not a way to do this then there needs to be, if there is a way to do this there is no easy way to figure out how the heck to change this behavior. Another every time I have to go and change to play the next chronological podcast the first screen is some red ribbon thing that also displays the time that I have to swipe my finger up to get it out of the way so I can start playing another one. I would really like to turn this thing off because it is annoying and is an extra step, I would probably hate it less if all my podcasts played in chronological order and didn't have to switch podcasts every 5-7 minutes. However there is no visible way to turn this off either. I have went into display settings and tried changing things there, I seem to get nowhere. So more googling the web seeing if anyone has found a way to disable this again no central help or easy to find help for these things. Then my only other complaint with the zune device itself which I think is a major one, HD radio. I have been curious about HD radio but I am not about to go out and replace my car radio so I can see what this HD radio stuff is. I figured this would be an opportunity to see. Well from the menu I tap on radio and the radio starts up and I can go to all my regular radio stations and set up presets and everything. However where is the HD radio? All I see is the same old radio stations. I know they exist in my area they advertise them on the local radio stations. How do I get to them, or how do I know I am listening to an HD radio station? This one totally perplexes me. Honestly all I see are the same old radio stations at the same old location on the dial I see with my regular old radios. I see absolutely nothing on the device telling me I am listening to HD or Standard or what. Then I have no help to tell me what I am doing wrong if anything. Again I think this is something I need to figure out, but come on this is supposed to be one of the big features of the device. Honestly had I not read other reviews about people saying they were listening to HD radio stations I would think it is something not implemented yet, again no instructions or help. Playing music, I like to sometimes choose an album or a playlist and then just set it to randomly play songs on the list. I am sure this device can do this, but how? There are some buttons at the bottom when something is playing, but there are no tool tips or anything that tells me what these buttons do. Again no help that tell me what these buttons do either. So I guess my biggest problem with the device is it has a pretty steep learning curve, but that I would expect because it is a great device, then being that it has a steep curve is that there is no help or instructions beyond the "this is how you turn the device on and hook it up." So basically if there was anything I would improve would be to allow some customizations to default behavior if they are not there or make it easier to change them because they are not obvious then provide instructions somewhere. This player is the best I have owned thus far. One negative is that it does not support WPA2-enterprise wireless networks. I've used many PMP's from Ipod touch to Cowon and Archos, this is the best of all of them hardware-wise. The Zune HD's screen is breathtakingly clear. The processor is by far the fastest I've experienced on a PMP and the organization of files is very user friendly. However software wise the Zune has great potential. If Microsoft were to focus on what it does best, software, the Zune would reign over all portable devices.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) Top Quality

The Zune HD is an awesome music player. If I could only have one device this would probably be it. Unfortunately I have an iPhone and an Airport Express which allow me to play and control music wirelessly from another room. I could get over this but I can't get over the basic Zune software or Zune rating system. While a rating system of 0-5 stars may not be perfect it give more flexibility than like, dislike, or no rating. I've been struggling with this for several days and I just cannot work with such a basic rating system. I need at least four choices. Add to this the fact that the Zune software does not natively support Audiobooks without very limited third party software and the device becomes a bust. I really like the Zune HD and I want it to become the center of my digital music world but I cannot justify spending this kind of money for a device that doesn't mesh with my current configuration. I don't expect Microsoft to play nicely with iTunes or the other way around but it would be nice if they met me half way.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum) This instant

This is the basics of what you get with the Zune HD
- It's a great music player in terms of visuals and music playback
- Nice looking video player despite it's small size. I don't see people watching a lot of videos on this device but the option of HD video output to an HDTV is what you want to go for
- HD radio which produces CD quality radio service. I tried it and it actually works.
- Internet surfing = Zune HD has a web browser. The browser is surprisingly good but again, with the Zune HD's size, the experience is not quite as favorable. If Microsoft makes another Zune HD with a bigger screen and export the web browser to it, the experiene will be magnified.

If you're looking for alternative to the iPod Touch which has apps, I suggest you hold off on buying the Zune HD for now. There are some basic apps like Weather and calculator but it's App store is not as vast as Apple. I suggest you buy this device mainly for being a music/video player and maybe a favorable internet browsing experience.

The Zune 4.0 software is a WAY better alternative to iTunes 9. The experience is just better overall. Browsing and listening to music is dull experience when compared to Zune 4.0 which has better visuals and a better music playing experience.

If you're looking for a strong alternative to the iPod Touch, Zune HD is as good as it gets. If you on the other hand, are looking for a PMP which has a vast apps store, i suggest you stick to iPod.

Overall, I think the Zune HD is better device for music loversGet more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Only had for one day, but WOW! I have an ipod and had the previous Zune which I also loved. The Zune HD is even smaller and slimmer than it looked in the photos. The display is beautiful and the touch screen interface works perfect. The new Zune 4.0 software has been improved and the marketplace is very easy to use. The internet is great and works quite well. The hd radio is amazing and a great feature to have. Videos are exceptional, same with the music files. I just put my I-Touch up on E-Bay. I bought the ZUNE HD yesterday and can't put it down. The screen is the clearest out and the touch screen works like a charm. Volume is clearer than the I-touch and it's a much nicer looking player. Another plus is your not limited to Apples I-Tunes. The Zune plays all the formats out there accept for apples. Real Player lets you download any music you want from you tube now. Don't second guess it. Zune HD will be the best player you ever owned. As usual, Microsoft is about 2 years behind the iPod line, with a limited number of features that have been available on the iPod for two years. Bravo to MS for being able to copy yet another Apple design, just as it copied the square-shaped screen and click wheel design of the original iPod. It's stunning that Microsoft continues to trail behind Apple and attempts to win market share by merely adopting everything Apple proves to be successful. Listen, no one in their right mind would give up the thousands of apps, the games, the download-direct capability to rent movies and buy music, the sex appeal of the design and the ease of use of the iPod Touch in favor of the significantly hampered features of a Zune. So yes, I'm calling out any Microsoft employee making up phony "reviews" in which they claim to be former iPod Touch owners. If you're a true consumer who is comparing this latest outdated brick with the iPod Touch, I encourage you to try them both. Try before you buy. Simply go to your nearest Apple Store and get hands-on with the iPod Touch, then go find a vendor who will let you get JUST AS hands-on with a Zune. The user experience is so significantly different, the decision will be simple to make. Then you can come back here to Amazon to make the purchase. The Zune isn't even what the iPod was 2 years ago... But if you're opposed to having the cutting edge of full functionality, hey, Microsoft is your company.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Between me and my husband we've owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I've settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I'll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It's very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

Points of comparison:
- Brighter OLED screen with more vivid color and better contrast
OLED screens can wash out in direct sunlight more than others, but in almost any other situation they are clearly preferable, and have a marvelous eye-catching picture that needs to be seen to be appreciated. The screen has slighly lower resolution than the iPod Touch, but is also slightly smaller, so in the end video looks a little less pixellated when viewed closely, and very vivid.

- HD Radio
If you live within the reception area of some HD radio stations this can be a surprisingly nice feature. For me it's not so much the slightly better sound quality as it is the additional streams of content that make this fun. For example, if you tune into an FM station, then it's playing what you here, and if you don't like it too bad. With an HD station, you may tune in and it will be shown with up to three signals to chose from labeled HD1, HD2, and HD3. HD1 may have whatever is playing on the FM version, HD2 may be news, and HD3 might be some alternative music w/ a different theme. For example one of our oldies station in the Boston area broadcasts a love-song themed selection on HD3. One caveat: if you don't have a strong enough signal, these HD versions can cut in and out, making them frustrating to listen to. But, when the signal is strong enough it's very enjoyable.

- 720p video output via (an over-priced) dock. When transferring video content to the Zune you can specify if it should be sized appropriately for playback on the Zune or TV, so if you do plan to just watch on your Zune you won't have the video taking up huge amounts of storage.

- Zune Pass subscription service
This is my favorite feature that will keep me using a Zune until it's pried from my my desperate grasp. For $15 a month I get 10 DRM-free MP3 songs to keep, and unlimited access to millions of songs. As long as you would have bought at least 10 songs anyways that means you're paying only $5 for that access. It's better than Pandora, Slacker, LastFM or other services because you can listen to full CDs, specify playlists and tracks in the exact order you want, AND can either stream this music or store it on your Zune to listen to later, even if out of wifi range. Lots of people present subscription services as something you do INSTEAD of owning music, but at this cheap a price there's no reason you can't use this as a supplement to whatever purchases you make. It's not either/or, it's a wonderful "AND", especially if you're the type who likes to explore and enjoy a broad range of music.

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor.

- Wireless sync
In addition to wireless net access, you can sync your Zune to your PC wirelessly, which can be quite convenient on occasion. The new Zune HD seems to have better wireless reception than my prior Zunes.

- Smart DJ
Rhapsody first popularized a playlist construction service with its 'Channels' feature, and Apple followed with its 'Genius' feature. The idea is that you specify a song or artist, and the service will construct a playlist of similar music of both familiar and new artists for you to enjoy. The prior Zunes had a 'Channel' feature too, but I found it lacking in sophistication and accuracy. The 4.0 Zune Marketplace upgrade (the Zune equivalent of iTunes) now has a 'Smart DJ' feature that is a much improved version of the old Channels. I actually find it very useful now, and what's even better is that if you have Zune Pass you can specify whether it should pull music exclusive from your collection, from the Zune Pass selection, or from a combination of both. It's wonderfully flexible and lots of fun.

- Web Browsing
The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod's. It works well, but isn't as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that's not an issue, but if you're planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod's larger screen and better browser may be important.

- App Store
Hands down, Apple's app store wins by a mile. It's a huge selection of all sorts of apps vs a rather sad selection of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I'm not sure I'd want to bet on the future if this aspect is important to you. The iPod is a much better choice in that case.

- Zune Marketplace and iTunes
This is getting a bit more subjective, but I much prefer the Zune Marketplace. The interface is colorful, has more flair, and some cool features like 'Mixview' that let you quickly see related albums, songs, or other users related to what you're listening to. Clicking on one of those will center on that item, and another set of "neighbors" will come into view, allowing you to navigate around exploring by similar artists, songs, or users. Speaking of users, the Zune "Social" is also great fun, letting you find others with shared tastes and becoming friends with them. You then can listen to a playlist created based on an amalgamation of what all your friends are listening to, which is also enjoyable. Those concerned with privacy will be relieved to know you can prevent the public from seeing your personal listening habits if you so choose.

- UI
The HD's UI was a bold move that paid off. It may look cluttered and overly busy in screenshots, but to see it in action is to appreciate the design. It isn't always obvious, and the provided documentation is sparse, but a little experimentation will show you a UI with lots of flexibility, like a menu of favorites, newly added music, and a user-definable set of shortcuts to your favorite playlists, artists, HD Radio stations, etc. One quibble: it takes one too many clicks and touches to bring up the now playing screen after the display has 'gone to sleep' while you're listening to it. Other than that, the UI is delightful.

- Summary
The Zune concentrates on being a Portable Media Player. Not a web browser. Not a game machine. Maybe in the future it'll do even better in those areas, but for now it's a fantastic way to organize and listen to your music and videos, and is without peer in that regard. The iPod's strengths are its web browsing and apps. If those sound more compelling, perhaps it is your best choice.

If you're still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you'll know which is right for you.

- Current Zune Owners
(See, I didn't forget you!) I think owners of any of the older flash players will be delighted at the upgrade, as long as money isn't an issue. Don't hesitate. Those who value the higher capacity of the 80gb or a 120gb will have a tougher choice. If you can't afford both, then you'll have to weigh the ability to be able to have all (or at least most) of your music stored on the device vs the HD radio, better display, and sleeker than a seal UI. As I said before, this new Zune is surprisingly small and light, and you should find one to get a feel for in person too, because then you can really evaluate how compelling those new features are to you. Oh, and don't forget it has an Equalizer if that matters!

Keep in mind: Microsoft has made it clear that the HD line is the future. They were great about giving new features to the older models in the past, but we're seeing a clear signal with the 4.0 Marketplace. Most of the cool new stuff is only going to the new kid on the block, and I think that will continue to be the case. They won't cut you out entirely, but if they're going to concentrate on making the HD succeed, then I suspect that is where most if not all of their future focus and effort will go.

Sorry for the huge review, but I'm really loving the new Zune, and hope this, as well as the excellent reviews some other people have written, will help you decide if it's the right choice for you.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Annoyed with apple for not putting the camera into the new touch.
Even more annoyed that apple did not release a new browser that supports flash with the faster processors.
Started looking at preordering a zune hd instead. Always liked OLED screens.
Then I found out that Zune HD does not support flash. Does not even have a youtube app!!!!

Lets look at my choices:
1) zune hd 32GB for $289 that does not support ANY streaming video period and does not have apps yet (even usless ones to waste my time)!
2) itouch 32GB for $299. Youtube support only and tons of useless apps but better than none, maybe!

As much as I have lost faith in apple (LOTS OF FAITH,in fact, I am PISSED!), I think I am going with the itouch. I have 3 laptops, a tablet and a netbook. I really want something that goes into my pocket and where I can still browse youtube at hotspots, apps that waste my time, while still carrying my music...

what does the zune give me that I cannot do with itouch?????? hdradio?????

Had to buy one to find out that I cannot watch my vids! returned it. (I am pissed at MS too, and all the on hand previewers at the tech sites that did not come out and say it) And the fact that MS covered up so much that I had to buy it to find out!

Just give me something small that supports FLASH properly so that I can get away from apple!Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Everything about this release shows that the Zune (brand) has now matured. The 4.0 software has much needed features, and is even more fun to use than the last version. The player itself is like a quantum leap from the previous generation Zunes. It's fair to say that the Zune can now compete with the iTouch.

Pros:
OLED - movies/games/navigation are all extremely vivid....even the music with the cover art and scrolling info are a nice visual touch
Apps - even though the offering is meager right now, it won't be long before some great games/apps start appearing on the marketplace.
HD Radio - this to me is still a must have for a PMP, especially with the ability to identify a song and purchase via the marketplace just by hearing on the HD Radio
Browser - while it's not the latest IE, it's still great to be able to browse the web via the same device
Navigation - the quicklist, the drill-down screen views, and the natural touch movements make this very easy to get used to

Cons:
Left button media control - this is actually harder to press than I originally thought, and this button comes in handy....it's not bad placement, it should just be either raised or as wide as the device itself
Screen size - I watch movies when I travel, and I wish the screen were just a tad bigger. The Zune80 had a good movie viewing screen.
Memory - Right now I have many pictures/podcasts/mp3's and I can only fit 5~6 movies. On the older Zune I had everything plus was able to fit an additional 30-40 movies. Would've been nice to offer a memory card slot, this would be a huge competitive advantage.

In any regard, this far exceeds my expectations and so far I'm completely satisfied.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Got this yesterday. Let me tell you ive had a great experience with this product so far. The excellent design and small feel makes this an excellent touch screen to own. The interface is absolutely beautiful. After owning several generations of Zune's this is by far the one to own. With the Xbox intergration coming later this year, it will only become a superior product.Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

Wow!!!! I am speechless with this Zune HD. It is by far the best Zune that Microsoft has come out with. I love everything about it. What i like most is the visualizer it shows after a while. It displays the background picture of that artist and the info on that song. Awesome!!!!! I am really satisfied with my Zune HD. The only improvements it needs are the apps and a better browser but I'm sure Microsoft will soon have an update to improve it. So far my Ipod Touch will be collecting dust because now my Zune HD has replaced. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!Get more detail about Zune HD 32 GB Video MP3 Player (Platinum).

First, I want to clairify that I say the zune HD is not the best microcomputer(itouch) but that it is the best media player in its field. While in some ways the zune HD competes with the itouch it more specifically targets the rest of the mp3 player market.

The touch screen is just as sensitive as a G1 or iphone would be but its 3.3" OLED (organic light emitting display)screen gives it beautiful video playback with true black and beautiful color, although the screen is a little on the small side. Its browser works fairly good and can render pages correctly on most websites, (gizmodo, Engadget,politico,ect..) and will hopefully only get better development with time.

HD radio increases overall quality and signal strength of FM radio for those who are die-hard FM listeners, and the few games and apps. that are available are of the highest quality and FREE. ON the software side the potential uses for the zune pass as well as great podcast integration and mixview and smart dj round out the best music experience of any service available today.
The build quality is top notch and the glass, aluminum construction make the device light but strong. It has a unique brushed aluminum feel thats unique to zune. Aside from the screen this thing could take a heavy fall on its side or back.

The optional dock also makes it a great media center and playing HD 720p content from the device is very nice. The interface is smooth and videos look great. Wireless sync is very handy also.
Overall this is a well rounded device that incorporates, radio, video, podcasts, and music into a small and lovely device. Anyone who isnt strongly craving an apple branded device should look into the zune community because its unlike another music experience (itunes, rapsody, ect) that I have tried before. While the zune HD isnt the computing powerhouse (apps, games) that the ipod line is, the promise for future applications, browser support and rich multimedia abilities make it a strong contender. I bought this thing on the 15th and I Im never looking back.
