I played w/ this at Best Buy, and I really like its pretty OLED (organic light-emitting diode) display. OLED is thinner, more energy-efficient, brighter, more responsive, and again prettier than the LCD display on the iPod touch.
Here are the other good benefits of the Zune HD over the iPods I'm telling you about:
a. You can sync with your PC wirelessly, but you have to use the supplied USB cable the first time you sync.
b. When you connect it to your HDTV, you can see the entire interface, including the photos, videos, menu, and the Now Playing screen on your TV screen!!! This is a good way to impress your family and friends.
c. You can share music w/ your friends who have other Zune devices, just like the other Zunes.
d. You get unlimited downloads for only $15/month!!!!! iTunes doesn't have this feature.
e. You can even surf the internet, just like the iPod touch.
f. You get a better processor than the iPod touch.
g. Supports WMA format. The iPods don't.
h. Recharges battery more rapidly than iPods.
i. 262,144 color display!!!
Cons:
a. Doesn't display song lyrics, this means you have to type lyrics and then print on paper to learn new songs. Hopefully the Zune software and the Zune HD will have the lyrics feature later, so we can save paper, ink, and trees.
b. Not very many accessories to pick from in stores.
c. Zune HD AV Dock, which connects the Zune HD to your HDTV, costs $90.
d. No voice recording.
e. No lanyard strap hole (IOW, can't be worn around neck), but the non-touch screen Zunes (including Zune 4, 8, and 16) have the strap hole. Hopefully there's a case that comes w/ a necklace for this device.
f. No spoken menus and song titles (not necessary. I can live w/o this feature).
g. Remote?
As a result, I would definitely recommend this to a friend, although there's some lack of functionality.
